Our Learning and Progress Updates
Shortly after returning from the term holiday year 4 set off for their much anticipated two night residential to High Ashurst near Box Hill. The aim of this visit was to develop team work skills and further developing our values of Courage, Confidence, Co-operation, Curiosity and Caring. It was a very successful trip and the staff enjoyed getting to know the children outside the classroom. Some of the quiet children really shone and became stars, showing courage, confidence and a caring attitude. There was lots of positive feedback from all the pupils and parents regarding the trip and we look forward to returning to High Ashurst again next year.
At the start of the spring term we continued with our History Roman topic and are working hard to try and develop further cross curricular links as a result the children will be given the opportunity in design and technology to make their very own Roman catapults. Mrs Martin our History and Geography Leader returned inspired after attending a Geography conference with some new ideas and resources which were shared with all staff members. Year 4 have already begun using these new resources which will focus on further developing our pupils Geography skills and this term instead of teaching ‘India’ will be teaching the unit ’Beyond the Magic Kingdom.’ This new unit is a study of Florida and the United State of America. The children have been enjoying using the atlases to locate different countries and will be developing further Geography skills.
